Week 15 games etc.

Well, I played some games on the Yahoo site.  I started with 5 minute daily puzzles and did a crossword and something called ‘wordsense’.  The crossword was fun, especially since there was a hint button that gave you the answers.  Wordsense made no sense so I gave up.  I also tried bubble bug but it was just too fast for these fingers. When I received the follow up email from Stacey, I tried the popcap site.  I played bejewelled but found it boring.  I think the online version is not as good as the downloadable one (which we were instructed not to do).  I have never liked computer games going back to Pong.  My children loved them and encouraged me to play.  PacMan gave me anxiety attacks. I honestly can’t think of a single application where libraries might use this virtual stuff except maybe for doing a virtual tour of the library online.  Of course, for those who enjoy these things, the games might relieve staff boredom.  I’d rather shelve books!

MY CAT BEELZEBUB (AKA BUBBY). Bubby is a special cat in that he has 27 toes. His feet look like snowshoes. He had his 11th birthday in March and he loves to eat, sleep, shed hair and watch the birds and squirrels from the sunporch.

I forgot to include an example of a library application.  The obvious one is that committee members can work on the same document without having to email and attach.

When I tried to share my document with 2 people, one of them received the information but the other didn’t.  I thought I did both the same.  Week 13 has turned into an ongoing project.  Hope this is it!

I wasn’t able to copy the picture with the text to my blog.  I did copy the url but then it didn’t bring up the picture either.

I may try again later and see what happens.

Week 8 revisited

I looked over my entire blog history and don’t seem to have anything for week 8, even though I have noted on my hard copy that I did, indeed, complete the assignment.

1. my website address for del.icio.us is http://del.icio.us/lcliz  I am not really sure about this feature.  I did mark a favourite website (canningperennials.ca) but now what?

2.  LibraryThing was easier and more fun.  It would be a great tool for keeping track of books you’ve read.  For years I’ve used notebooks and more recently a word file but having pictures of the books is great.  My address is http:www.librarything.com/catalog/lcliz

The above is the podcast i chose because I like to listen to Vinyl Cafe on the radio.

I don’t like YouTube.  It is silly and a waste of time.  Sometimes I will look at videos someone recommends. For this exercise I watch a video called Mean Kitty.  It was cute but what really amazed me is that it has had over 8 million viewings.

WEEK 12

i downloaded Alibi Man and DaVinci Code.  Once i installed overdrive (which was a little complicated) it was relatively easy to find a book to download.  I couldn’t find the ebooks until I clicked on Info to Go.  I’m wondering if there is an easier way to find the ebooks.  The NetLibrary was a little easier but I followed the instructions to click on Info to Go.  Not sure I could have found it otherwise.  Neither of these programs are particularly intutive.  I was initially surprised that all books aren’t always available but then realized that only a certain number of ecopies are purchased. I will show my husband how to do this since he’s been asking about the ebooks.

The current event I chose was the olympic torch.  I pasted the feed above.  It will be interesting to get updates.  Library patrons who are interested in getting information about a specific subject on an ongoing basis might be interested in these features.
